About
"What is SHERIDAN+BAIRNS all about?"
The simple, honest answer is that it's my side project that I'm running next to my rather nice day job, working on data across UK Gov Departments. SHERIDAN+BAIRNS is my next project, after a career in academia (researching Machine Learning, until 2010), then two successful full-time AI/ML consultancies.
Day jobs don't always use all our abilities, so I'm enjoying playing with this, choosing to make a difference for select clients. There is no 'we', there is only me. When you see 'we', it's merely force of habit, 'the royal we'. And perhaps SHERIDAN+BAIRNS is just two words, plus-ed together.
"But no!" I hear you say, "We need a deeper, more emotional 'About' than that! Something that makes us love what you're doing, a triumphant story!"
"Oh. Okay then, how about this...
Since you mention it, this new venture exists in memory of my late wife, and in honour of my children. Created from a desire to make a marker.
Grief has a way of stripping life back to what matters most — kindness, purpose, connection. Continuing this work is my way of turning loss into something tangible. I can't change what happened, but I can make sure that what I deliver helps others find understanding, clarity, and value.
However, this may seem a little sappy, so let's also take a more grounded approach:
For us to be here, with our companies, and even our lives in general, we've all been through struggles. And those struggles have taught us and made us stronger. In that sense, we are ALL the "About us" story here because we are the overcoming force which causes our ventures to rotate in orbit around us.
So SHERIDAN+BAIRNS is me, Simon, doing what I do well, to help YOU, doing what you do well.
